Trekking and Climbing

Climbing and free-climbing enthusiasts will find breathtaking locations and crags in Cala Gonone. There are several routes on each wall, so that every sportsman can test his or her limits. Among the endless destinations is the spectacular route that runs from the Gulf of Orosei – Santa Maria Navarrese to Cala Gonone and is known as “Selvaggio Blu” (“Wild Blue”). And let’s not forget Poltrona and Budinetto – the mountain bike routes wind through the wooded slopes of the limestone mountains to reach beaches and caves, archaeological monuments, country churches and karstic springs, including the Terme Chiese Caves, Cala Luna, Supramonte and Orgosolo.

Boat trips

A must for anyone planning a holiday in this part of Sardinia is a boat trip on the Gulf of Orosei. A ‘mini-cruise’ that will give you the opportunity to sail the entire coastline and stop at beaches that can only be reached by sea, such as Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè, Cala Sisine and also to visit the famous Grotta del Bue Marino, a refuge for years for the monk seal.

Scuba diving

For divers and scuba divers, the entire seabed is teeming with fascinating little life, culminating in the immense expanses of Posidonia oceanica that get lost in the blue, amidst unique flora and fauna, wrecks and unmissable archaeological sites.
Among the most noteworthy dives are the wreck of Cala Luna and the Italian merchant ship Nasello, torpedoed during the last war.

Kayaking in the Cedrino

For canoe and kayak fans, the river route of the Cedrino reservoir provides a unique experience. A watercourse fed by the karstic waters of the Supramonte, it brings together in a single sporting activity, bird-watching, geological observation (the colour contrast between white limestone and dark basalt is remarkable) and cultural interest (the Nuraghi guarding the ancient river access routes or the pretty little church of San Pantaleo, situated on the top of a hill, isolated from the waters.
